Generations Matter
Text: Genesis 10
Monday — Return to the Text: Why Does God Give Us the Table of Nations?
1. Read Genesis 10:1-32. What does this chapter reveal about God’s sovereignty over all peoples and nations after the flood?
2. Why do you think a seemingly “boring” list of names and locations is included in Scripture? What does it teach us about generations?
3. The sermon highlights three key differences between generations (language, location, lords). Which of these stands out most to you in this passage?
4. Ask God to help you see your place in His multi-generational story.
Tuesday — Understand: Generations Speak Different Languages
1. Read Genesis 11:1-9 (the Tower of Babel) alongside Genesis 10:5, 20, 31. Why did God confuse the languages, and what does this show about human generations?
2. The sermon notes how each generation has its own “language” (e.g., “groovy,” “lit,” “no cap”). Why is it important to try to understand the language of other generations?
3. Where have you recently struggled to communicate across generational lines—at home, church, or work?
4. Pray for patience and humility to listen and learn from those in different generations.
Wednesday — Gospel Focus: Generations Serve Different Lords
1. Read Judges 2:6-12. What pattern of generational drift does this passage reveal, and how does it connect to Genesis 10?
2. Nimrod is described as a “mighty hunter before the Lord” but was actually a rebel. What does this warn us about worldly success versus faithfulness to God?
3. The sermon says we are always one generation away from spiritual decline. How have you seen this pattern in families or culture?
4. How does the gospel of Jesus Christ break the cycle of generational unfaithfulness?
Thursday — Examine: Generations Live in Different Locations
1. Read Genesis 10:5, 20, 31-32. How did God intend for Noah’s descendants to spread out?
2. In what ways has geography or distance affected your relationships with family or spiritual mentors?
3. The sermon encourages using technology and travel to stay connected. What practical steps could you take this week to invest in someone across the miles?
4. Reflect: Are you intentionally connecting with the generation above or below you in your church family?
Friday — Respond: The 10 P-Words for Godly Generations
1. Review the 10 P-Words from the sermon: Provide, Protect, Present, Proclaim, Pray, Pastor, Pilot, Police, Pirate, Partner. Which two do you need to focus on most right now?
2. Read Deuteronomy 6:4-9. How does this passage support the idea of actively discipling the next generation?
3. Which of the 10 P-Words feels most challenging for you in your current season of life?
4. Choose one P-Word and make a specific, actionable plan to apply it this week with a child, grandchild, or younger believer.
Saturday — Relationships: Investing Across Generations
1. Read Psalm 78:1-8. What does this psalm teach about passing on God’s works to the next generation?
2. The sermon emphasizes that different languages and locations matter less than the Lord we serve.
Where is your greatest opportunity right now to influence the next generation?
3. Are there any “gaps” in your generational faithfulness—areas where you’ve been passive or inconsistent?
4. Who in your life could you “pirate” wisdom from regarding raising godly children or mentoring younger believers?
Sunday — Hope: Be a Faithful Link in the Chain
1. Read Genesis 18:19. What was God’s purpose for Abraham and his household?
2. Where are you in the generational story right now? What legacy of faith are you building or receiving?
3. The sermon reminds us that God’s grace covers our failures and empowers us to change. Where do you need His mercy and strength for generational faithfulness?
4. Pray: “Lord, make me a faithful link. Help me pass on the knowledge and love of You to those who come after me.”
