Weekly Devotional Questions
Belt of Truth, Week 2 — Love the Truth
Monday — Return to the Text
Read Ephesians 6:10–18 and 2 Thessalonians 2:9–15.
1. In Ephesians 6, why do you think Paul begins the armor of God with the belt of truth?
2. According to 2 Thessalonians 2:10, what was the deeper problem with those who were
deceived? Was it only that they did not know the truth, or that they did not love it?
3. The sermon said, “It is one thing to believe the truth, but to love it changes our
allegiances.” Where do you see the difference between merely agreeing with truth and
actually loving it?
4. Ask God to show you this week where your heart has been loving something more than
Christ.
Tuesday — Love Jesus for Who He Is
Read John 14:6, John 10:1–18, and Psalm 34:8.
1. Jesus says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” What does it mean that truth is not
merely an idea, but a Person?
2. What about the person of Jesus—His holiness, compassion, mercy, justice, grace, and
shepherding care—most draws your heart to love Him?
3. The sermon said that when we recognize Jesus as our perfect Shepherd, “the lies of the
enemy begin to lose their pull.” What lies are most tempting to you right now?
4. How can you “taste and see that the Lord is good” today in a concrete way?
Wednesday — Love Jesus for What He Has Done
Read Romans 5:6–11, Romans 8:31–39, and Hebrews 7:25.
1. The sermon summarized the gospel as: “Christ lived in our place, died in our place, and
rose to secure our place.” Which part of Christ’s work do you most need to remember
today?
2. When is the last time you were emotionally moved by the person and work of Christ?
What tends to dull your wonder at the gospel?3. How does Christ’s present work—interceding for you, shepherding you, and holding you
fast—strengthen you against the enemy’s lies?
4. What would change in your thoughts, emotions, or obedience today if you truly believed
Christ has secured your future?
Thursday — Diagnose Your Competing Loves
Read Galatians 1:10, Romans 8:28–30, and John 14:15.
1. The sermon named four competing loves: reputation, comfort, autonomy, and
self-protection. Which one do you most clearly see in your life right now?
2. Where are you tempted to love the approval of people more than faithfulness to God?
3. Where are you tempted to preserve comfort instead of allowing Christ to transform you?
4. Where are you tempted to accept Jesus selectively—wanting Him as Savior while
resisting His lordship in a specific area?
Friday — Reveal the Lie and Confess the Sin
Read Psalm 139:23–24, 1 John 1:5–10, and Proverbs 28:13.
1. Ask honestly: What is one sin, pattern, fear, or area of resistance that God has been
pressing on your heart?
2. What lie might be underneath that sin? For example: “I need approval to be okay,”
“obedience will rob me of joy,” “I can handle this better than God,” or “it is safer to
hide.”
3. What does that lie reveal about what you are believing about Jesus—His goodness, His
authority, His sufficiency, or His grace?
4. Take time to confess specifically: “Lord, in this sin, I have loved
more than You.
______
Forgive me, and strengthen me in the truth to stand firm.”
Saturday — Repent and Replace
Read Colossians 3:1–17 and Romans 8:12–14.
1. The sermon said, “Depending on the Spirit, take decisive action. Do not manage it. Do
not negotiate with it. Kill it.” What is one concrete step of repentance you need to take?
2. What feeds this sin or competing love? Is it secrecy, isolation, entertainment, resentment,
comparison, fantasy, fear, or something else?
3. What would it look like to starve that sin this week?4. What truth about Christ do you need to feed your soul with instead?
Sunday — Hope in Christ, the Truth Who Sets Us Free
Read John 8:31–36, Hebrews 12:1–2, and 2 Thessalonians 2:13–15.
1. Jesus does not expose us to destroy us. He exposes what is killing us so He can lead us
into truth, freedom, healing, and life. Where do you need to believe that today?
2. What is one place where you have been resisting the light? What would it look like to
take one step into the light?
3. How does the order of 2 Thessalonians 2 encourage you—God loved you, chose you,
called you through the gospel, and therefore calls you to stand firm?
4. This week, what is one lie you need to name, one sin you need to confess, one step you
need to take, and one way you need to feed your love for Jesus?
Summary Question for the Week
